Our first topic for this half term is 'Healthy Living'. We will be learning about what humans and animals need to stay healthy and understanding that we should try and eat healthily. We will learn to sort foods into different food groups and we will be designing and making a healthy sandwich. For art we used oil pastels to create observational drawings of fruit.
In Literacy we have been reading 'The Disgusting Sandwich'. We had a go at making our own jam sandwiches by giving our partner instructions to follow. We ate one half of the sandwich and took the other half outside to turn it into a DISGUSTING sandwich!
We had lots of fun describing our yucky, soggy and sandy sandwiches.
An African drumming group from Ghana came to visit us on Tuesday 19th September. The Kakatsitsi are a group of traditional drummers, dancers and singers from the Ga tribe of Southern Ghana. The children really enjoyed listening to them play the different drums and learning their traditional rhythms, chants and dances.
Maths Fun Afternoon
On Thursday 12th October, we really enjoyed an afternoon of fun maths learning with our families. This gave us the opportunity to practise our skills of addition, division, money and shape and we shared different ways to practise maths at home.
Thank you to those of you that joined us, we hope you found it useful and enjoyable! For those of you that couldn't make it this time, here are some photos to show what we got up to.
Look out for news of the Spring fun afternoon!
Fact or Fiction
Our topic for this half term is 'Fact or Fiction'. We will be learning about different stories, including real life stories (fact) and made up stories (fiction). In History, we will be learning about the Gunpowder Plot. We will taking part in a drama workshop to help us remember what happened and why we celebrate Bonfire Night on the 5th November.
This week we have been learning all about Gunpowder Plot. We learnt about a man called Guy Fawkes and why he plotted to kill King James 1. In Literacy, we wrote a report to explain the main events.
On Friday, we took part in a drama workshop and acted out the main parts of the Gunpowder Plot. The children loved acting out the different events that led up to the 5th November. They also loved getting dressed up in the different costumes.
For Book Week this week we have all been listening to the story of Aladdin. On Thursday, we were very excited to watch the pantomime of Aladdin. We really enjoyed watching the story being acted out and loved singing along to the songs.
As part of Book Week we went on a book hunt around the school. We had to follow a set of clues to help us find the mystery book. We had great fun reading the clues and working out where to go next. Have a look at the photos to see where we went.
On Wednesday, we had a fantastic morning at the cinema watching 'Smurfs: The Lost Village'. We thought the film was really funny and really enjoyed watching it. We were also so well behaved and our teachers were so proud of us!
Reindeer Break In!
Miss Sturt and Mrs Hindle checked the school CCTV on Thursday after school and you will never believe what they saw... 3 reindeer had broken into our reception area!
They had posted a letter for us to read from Father Christmas. His sack has broken and he needs a new one in time for Christmas to be able to deliver all of our presents! We need to investigate which materials are strong enough and waterproof so that he can load our presents up on Christmas Eve. Check back here to see the sacks we make for him!
A Midwife Crisis
Orange Class enjoyed acting out the story of 'A Midwife Crisis' for our Christmas performance. Take a look at our photos below.
