How does your garden grow?

How does your garden grow?

This half term will focus on Science where we will explore everything to do with plants! We will be considering what plants need to grow including what happens if you change the growing conditions. We will use our planting & growing knowledge to grow our own carrots which we will then use to make our own mini carrot cakes for our families as a special Easter treat.

In English, we will use the text of Jack and the Beanstalk to explore character descriptions before moving onto instructional writing, learning to use imperative verbs and adverbs. This will link with our computing learning which we secure our understanding of what makes a good set of instructions.

Please take a look at our half termly overview below to find out more about what we will be learning.

In Art, we have been comparing the artists Georgia O'Keeffe and Andy Goldsworthy who both take inspiration from nature in their artwork. We used natural objects within our school grounds to create our own sculptures in the style of Andy Goldsworthy. Perhaps you could do this together at home when out and about!

We have been very excitedly watching our carrots grow over the past three weeks and although they weren't quite ready to use in carrot cakes, we still made our very own carrot cupcakes in D&T! We planned what they would look like including considering the ingredients and tools we would need and we then followed a set of instructions to make them. We cannot wait to taste them at home with our families!

Does the biggest seed always grow the biggest plant?

When planting our carrot seeds, this got us thinking... does the biggest seed always grow the biggest plant? We planted two different sized seeds (carrot & pea) and will be closely monitoring what happens to them. We wrote predictions to show what we think will happen. We will be investigating what happens over the next few weeks. Check back on here to see what we find out!

Carrot update!

Our carrot seeds are beginning to sprout seedlings. Keep checking back on here to see their progress!

In Science, we are learning about what plants need to grow. We followed a set of instructions to plant & grow our own carrot seeds that we will then use to make carrot cakes. This will help us in our English learning when we will be writing instructions using clear verbs and adverbs. Check back on here to see how our carrots are getting on!

Together, we grow our love for learning.
