Watch out! Dragon about!

This week in Year 1 we have been learning and performing a poem. We learnt Fly, Dragon, Fly by Mrs Maloney and added actions to help us. We were very brave and performed the poem in front of the rest of the class. On Friday, we celebrated Traditional Tales Day. We dressed up as our favourite traditional tale character and listened to lots of stories throughout the day. In Year 1, we read Three Billy Goats Gruff and acted out the story all together. We even made a Three Billy Goats Gruff display for our door!

This week in Year 1, we have been writing the end of our stories. We were really brave and read our stories to the rest of the class. We all did such an amazing job and had great expression in our voices when we read our stories out loud. We also turned our story into a book! We designed a front cover and drew a picture to match the new character in our story! We have also been using counting in 5 bean bags to help us with counting in 5s, it has been so much fun! We have been focusing on our mental wellbeing in Year 1 this week as well. We have been doing lots of Cosmic Kids Yoga to focus our minds and help us remain calm!

This week in Year One we have been re-writing the story of George and the Dragon. We added our own character and used exciting adjectives to describe them! We also changed the food that our character needed to borrow from the dragon. In maths this week we have been learning how to find half of a number. We have also been cutting shapes into two equal halves to see what half of a shape looks like. In phonics we had a go at writing the tricky words using chalk in our outside area. In maths, we have been learning how to share into groups of 2 and 5. We grouped the teddies into groups to help with the division questions. This Friday we celebrated May Day! Jane and Jeff visited our school and taught us how to Maypole dance. We had so much fun learning the different dances and using the bells when we were dancing! This week we have been focusing on St. George, we have been researching all about what he did and who he is. We looked at an old painting of St George and completed a puzzle to find out what it looked like. Friday is St. George's Day and we have celebrated by rewriting the story of St. George and designing our own St. George book cover! We have really enjoyed acting out the story and pretending to be a fierce dragon! In maths, we have been learning how to count in 2s, 5s and 10s.
