What’s inside an egg? (Spring 2)

This half term started with the discovery of an Egg in the school grounds.  It was decided that this was a dinosaur egg and we started finding out about dinosaurs.

W/b 22nd March

We looked at the seasons and in particular the signs of spring in the school grounds. We went on a spring walk and the children took photos of things they saw that showed it was Spring. The bulbs we planted before Christmas have turned into tulips and daffodils and some of the children drew them.

We also read the story of The Very Hungry Caterpillar by Eric Carle as we have some caterpillars in our class.  We talked about the life cycle of a butterfly.  Two children were wrapped up to form a cocoon or chrysalis so they could demonstrate how the butterfly breaks free.

Week beginning 29th March

This week we have been learning about Easter celebrations and the Easter story.  The children have made Easter cards, made and decorated crosses with blossom and made hot cross buns for The Butterfly Cafe. They have also experimented with transporting eggs on vehicles made from mobillo and rolled eggs down ramps to see how far they would go and what was the best height for the ramp.

Together, we grow our love for learning.
