Inspirational Women

This half term, we will be learning about lots of inspirational women and how they have changed our world. In history we will learn about Florence Nightingale and the impact she had on nursing. We will compare what nursing was like when Florence Nightingale was a nurse, to what nursing is like today.

In DT we will learn about Greta Thunberg and how we can help the environment by upcycling an old t-shirt. We will use sewing skills to re-design our t-shirts to showcase at our fashion show.

Please take a look at our half termly overview below to find out more about what we will be learning.

Week 1 - 9/6/2023:

It was Art Week this week so we had lots of fun learning and creating our own Pop Art based on the artist Roy Lichtenstein. We used bright colours and a technique called Ben Day Dots to make our art really bold and exciting. We also had lots of fun in computing creating our own coding using Scratch Junior.

Week 2: 16/06/2023

In maths this week we have been learning about volume and capacity. We really enjoyed measuring water outside in the heat and using different cups to see which would hold the most water. It was a great way to keep cool! We also started to create our own stories using our class story 'Pumpkin Soup' to help us create our ideas.

Week 3 - 22/06/2023

We are really proud of Year 2 and how hard they worked this week. On Wednesday we started our DT topic and practiced our sewing. In maths we have started our new unit on statistics and used tables and tally charts to find out what the most and least favourite colours were in our class. We also visited the Junior school and went on a treasure hunt to see what we could find.

Week 4 - week beginning 26/06/23

This week has been another exciting week in Year 2. We have been investigating data and have been conducting our own surveys and then presenting the information in block diagrams and pictograms. In English, we have been looking at the story of 'The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark'.

Week 5 - 03.07.23

We all enjoyed visiting our new junior schools this week. It was exciting to see our new classrooms.

Back at Farnborough Grange, we have been designing our upcycled t-shirts and have also been practising for Sports Day. In English, we have created our own characters for our stories based on 'The Owl who was Afraid of the Dark' and in maths we have been learning about position and direction.
